Something I keep noticing

Immersion and shadowing work. Finding the material doesn't.

A lot of Japanese learners hear the same advice eventually — immersion and shadowing are what actually move the needle. So they go looking for it, and run into the same two options.

Videos of natives talking to natives: real speed, real Japanese, and no explanation at all. "Learn Japanese" channels: plenty of explanation, but the Japanese gets slowed down and flattened until it barely sounds like something a person would actually say.

Natural speed and a real explanation, in the same place, in English — that's the part that seems to be missing.

Sound familiar?

05Reacting to something delicious
え、何これ、やばい。…やばくない? 想像してたより全然おいしい。
かなえ、なにこれ、やばい。…やばくない? そうぞうしてたよりぜんぜんおいしい。
ENWait, what is this — it's insane (so good). Right?? Way better than I imagined.
Phrases to steal
  • やばい — here = "amazing"; same word at a train delay = "oh no"
  • やばくない? — pulls the other person into agreeing
  • 全然+肯定 — textbooks forbid it; natives say 全然おいしい = "way tastier"
Under the hood
  • やばい — originally negative slang, now flips positive or negative purely by tone and context.
  • やばくない? — a negative question used to invite agreement — not literally asking "isn't it not amazing."
  • 想像してた — していた with い dropped — past progressive, "was imagining."
  • 全然+おいしい — 全然 "should" require a negative verb by textbook rule; natives pair it with positives for emphasis constantly.

Who's behind this

I'm Soma. I kept noticing the same gap — plenty of raw, natural Japanese out there, but almost nobody pairs it with a real explanation in English. So I built the version that doesn't make you choose.

Questions

Do I need to already speak Japanese well?

No. Every word in this pack — 大丈夫, やばい, 全然 — is something most learners already recognize. This isn't new vocabulary; it's learning to use what you already know the way natives actually say it.
